Summary

  • Replaces the blanket prohibition on autonomous AI agents replying to maintainers with a clearer, more actionable requirement
  • All GitHub comments generated by or with AI assistance must begin with [AI-generated] and be kept succinct — including answers to maintainer questions
  • Comments must still be reviewed for relevance and accuracy before posting

Motivation

The old rule was vague and hard to enforce in practice. This change shifts the focus from prohibiting AI replies to requiring transparency, which is more consistent with rule 1 (disclosure in commit messages).

This PR is intended as a starting point for team discussion.

…comments

Replace the prohibition on autonomous agents replying to maintainers with a
requirement that all AI-generated GitHub comments (including answers to
questions) be marked with [AI-generated] and kept succinct.

I don't see how it's vague. It states interactions with maintainers should not be automated and it even provides an example on how to include AI content.
And it's not harder to enforce than any other policy.

I personally prefer the rule as is.

My primary non-negotiable is that the submitter needs to have reviewed the work before it is submitted. The notice about what is AI and what isn't is less important to me than not being fed inaccurate information by the AI and sort through it all with less context about the problem than the contributor has
