An agent heartbeat for a device that is already ONLINE went through MachineRepository.save(), which the MachineTagEventAspect turns into a message on shared.devices-topic — roughly one per device per minute, and the dominant reason the topic grew to ~8 GB inside the 72h retention. lastSeen is not part of MachinePinotMessage, so those messages were byte-for-byte identical to the previous one bar ingestionTime, and the Pinot upsert table discards them anyway. MachineStatusService now short-circuits when the status is unchanged and refreshes lastSeen through a targeted Mongo update that bypasses save(), so the aspect does not fire. Anything that touches a field carried in MachinePinotMessage still goes through save()/saveAll().
