I see that you're using the 3.9 version. We recommend always using the latest version available. The 4.x series introduced a new stateful client that will greatly simplify your integration logic.

This is now available via a configurable local message cache window.

The SDK can limit how many messages each channel keeps in memory. Older messages are trimmed as new ones arrive; this does not delete anything on the server. When messages leave the local cache, MessagesRemovedFromCache fires so you can destroy the corresponding UI/prefabs. You can also rebuild from channel.Messages.

For livestream-style rooms:

Per-channel override: channel.OverrideMessageCacheWindow(MessageCacheWindow.Recommended).

LoadOlderMessagesAsync pauses trimming so history the user just loaded is not removed immediately. Call channel.ResumeMessageCacheTrimming() when they scroll back to the newest messages.
