Can't use image field as a dependee

This module is a thing of great beauty! Thank you.

However, as with this issue with the Drupal version, I'm unable to get this working if the dependee is an image field. Any variation of the condition selected (has value, is filled, is untouched etc.) doesn't deliver the results. Yet the dependee image field is listed in the Depends on drop-down.

If this functionality is known not to work, might it be better not to list image fields in that drop-down?

Thanks, @laryn. This worked. The combined use of (Condition = Value) with (Values input mode = None of these values (NOT)) with (Set of values = 0), PLUS a custom jQuery selector (in the Advanced edit context settings) of input[name='field_story_image[und][0][fid]'] worked perfectly. Thank you.
